The New Boston Lions will square off against the Hooks Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, New Boston put up the most points they have all season on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Queen City 70-8. The Lions have beaten the Bulldogs the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bulldogs has come to flipping the script.
New Boston found their leader in freshman Javonte Giddens, who rushed for 139 yards and three scores on only 11 carries. Giddens' longest rush was for an impressive 50 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another player making a difference was Kason Campbell, who picked up 134 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
New Boston was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 207 rushing yards. They are a perfect 4-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
New Boston didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Campbell picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Hooks unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 76-59 bruising from Daingerfield. The Hornets were down 70-47 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Ripken Birdwell and Isaiah Parker. Parker had a great game and threw for 408 yards and seven TDs while picking up 15.1 yards per attempt. Meanwhile, Birdwell did his best for the losing side, throwing for 110 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also rushing for 30 yards and one score.
Hooks' defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-3. As for New Boston, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
New Boston was able to grind out a solid win over Hooks in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 41-33. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
