Football Game Preview: St. Thomas Academy Cadets vs. Mahtomedi Zephyrs + Official Tickets

St. Thomas Academy has won four straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Mahtomedi has won four straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Cadets will welcome the Zephyrs at 6:00 p.m. St. Thomas Academy will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.

St. Thomas Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past Two Rivers to the tune of 50-14 on Thursday. With the Cadets ahead 43-6 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

St. Thomas Academy's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Tristan Karl, who threw for 80 yards and three TDs, and Dominic Baez, who rushed for 80 yards and three scores. Baez is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last five games he's played.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: St. Thomas Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 205 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 151 rushing yards in six consecutive games.

St. Thomas Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Revis Cooney and Todd Rogalski.

Meanwhile, Mahtomedi slipped by Cretin-Derham Hall 28-27 on Friday.

St. Thomas Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Mahtomedi, their win bumped their record up to an identical 7-0.

Everything came up roses for St. Thomas Academy against Mahtomedi in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, as the squad secured a 52-7 victory. Do the Cadets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Zephyrs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
