Basketball Recap: Cabrillo Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Cabrillo on Friday. They took down the Santa Ynez Pirates 49-30. Winning may never get old, but the Conquistadores sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Cabrillo got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jasmyn Hughes out in front who posted nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Hughes is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. Sophia Austin was another key player, going 6 for 12 on her way to 17 points.

Cabrillo was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santa Ynez only racked up five assists.

Santa Ynez lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Helina Pecile, who had ten points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Lapointe, who put up seven points and four steals.

Cabrillo has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Santa Ynez, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cabrillo will welcome Lompoc at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Santa Ynez, they will host San Luis Obispo at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. San Luis Obispo will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Santa Ynez surely won't give up without a fight.
