Basketball Game Preview: Dallas Mountaineers vs. Wallenpaupack Area Buckhorns

The Dallas Mountaineers will challenge the Wallenpaupack Area Buckhorns at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 81-39, which was the final score in Dallas' tilt against Hazleton Area two weeks ago. While losing is never fun, the Mountaineers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 175th, while the Cougars are ranked fourth).

Meanwhile, Wallenpaupack Area was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a blow against Scranton Prep, falling 72-38. The Buckhorns were down 49-27 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Dallas' loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.7 points over those games. As for Wallenpaupack Area, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.

Dallas took their victory against Wallenpaupack Area in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 64-43. Will Dallas repeat their success, or does Wallenpaupack Area have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
