Softball Recap: Wednesday's Defeat Ends Union Grove's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Union Grove unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Pike County Pirates by a score of 10-9. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Wolverines, who until this game were averaging 2.57 runs allowed.

Union Grove got a good showing from Alisha Cattuzzo, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Cattuzzo has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lauren Jordan stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Jada Jackson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Union Grove's loss dropped their record down to 11-3. As for Pike County, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Union Grove will welcome Ola at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wolverines 2.6, the Mustangs 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Pike County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Jackson at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
