It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Smithfield ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Coventry Oakers, sneaking past 5-4. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Sentinels also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2025.

Jacob Sylvester was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Luke Dwyer, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Smithfield's victory bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Coventry, their defeat was their 11th straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-15.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smithfield will head out to square off against North Providence at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Sentinels' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Coventry, they will head out on the road to face off against South Kingstown at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
