Basketball Recap: Bishop's Comes Up Short

Bishop lost against Francis Parker two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Bishop's Knights fell 47-37 to the Francis Parker Lancers. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 184th, while the Lancers are ranked 21st).

Despite the loss, Bishop's saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Margo Leong dropped a double-double with 12 points and 16 boards. Leong is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last nine games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Moana Peterson, who posted seven points.

Francis Parker found their leader in freshman Isabella Riddle, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards. Riddle also set a new season-high mark in blocks with seven. Audrey Owens was another key player, putting up 11 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Bishop's and nudges their season record down to 15-10. As for Francis Parker, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-8.

Looking ahead, Bishop's will take on La Jolla Country Day at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. La Jolla Country Day is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.3 points per game this season. As for Francis Parker, they will challenge St. Joseph Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Francis Parker's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while St. Joseph Academy has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
