The Mountain Valley Falcons will venture away from home to take on the Dirigo Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Mountain Valley has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Dirigo will arrive with three straight victories.
Hall-Dale hit Mountain Valley with a four-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Falcons took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs.
Josh Pollis made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sawyer Durant, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dirigo). They blew past Boothbay 20-0 on Wednesday. With that win, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Caiden Skidgell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ty LaPointe, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaeden Swan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Dirigo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .650. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Mountain Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8-1. As for Dirigo, their record now sits at 6-8.
