Softball Recap: Columbus Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Columbus hadn't done well against Fremont recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Discoverers came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 5-1. This was payback for the Discoverers, who suffered a 6-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Liberty Bos spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kyrstyn Long, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Columbus' victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-12. As for Fremont, they dropped their record down to 3-17 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Columbus will venture away from home to square off against Lincoln Southeast at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.41 runs per game on average), something the Discoverers will no doubt try to take advantage of. Fremont has already played their next matchup (against Grand Island), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
