Football Game Preview: La Costa Canyon Mavericks vs. San Marcos Knights + Official Tickets

Two dominant backs in Coby Herman and Zamar Reese are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The La Costa Canyon Mavericks will be playing in front of their home fans against the San Marcos Knights at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

La Costa Canyon is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of California's top teams: Mission Hills, who was ranked 14th at the time (La Costa Canyon was ranked 15th). The Mavericks and the Grizzlies were almost perfectly matched up on Friday, but the Mavericks suffered a 35-34 loss. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

The losing side was boosted by Quinn Roth, who threw for 213 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes.

Meanwhile, San Marcos entered their tilt with Oceanside on Friday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Pirates 52-27. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-14.

The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Reese and Neke Letuli. Reese had a great game and rushed for 236 yards and three TDs while picking up 13.1 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Letuli was balling out in the loss, rushing for 168 yards while picking up 8.8 yards per carry.

Having lost for the first time this season, La Costa Canyon fell to 5-1. As for San Marcos, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 5-1.

Everything went La Costa Canyon's way against San Marcos when the teams last played back in September of 2022, as La Costa Canyon made off with a 30-7 win. In that contest, the Mavericks amassed a halftime lead of 30-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
