Football Recap: Cooper Collins Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat South Harrison

After losing to South Harrison the last time they met, Clay County decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Panthers blew past the Hawks 37-16 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won three matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.

Clay County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cooper Collins led the charge by throwing for 222 yards and three touchdowns. The Panthers' leading receiver Jakoby Nichols was Collins' top target yet again, picking up 118 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Clay County's defense stepped up as well, laying out Madden Maxwell three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Joel Elliott, Nick Williams, and Christian Bryant, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in South Harrison's side was Blake Coleman, who made 15 total tackles.

Although South Harrison took the loss, they still got scores from Maxwell and Shepard Paugh.

Clay County now has a winning record of 3-2. As for South Harrison, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Clay County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 14-6 defeat against Logan on the 3rd. As for South Harrison, they have also already played their next contest, a 49-22 loss against Philip Barbour on the 3rd.
