Recap: Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders vs. Patrick Henry Patriots
There's no place like home for the Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. They walked away with a 42-31 victory over Patrick Henry on Monday. That's another feather in the cap for Mater Dei Catholic, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Mater Dei Catholic found their leader in underclassman Awen Carrillo, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Carrillo continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Otilia Sua, who scored five points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Patrick Henry's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kimora Nears, who scored five points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. That's the first time this season that Nears posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Weisskopf, who scored five points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
Mater Dei Catholic pushed their record up to 8-10 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for Patrick Henry, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season.
Mater Dei Catholic will head out on the road to challenge Olympian at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Patrick Henry, they will be playing at home against Lincoln at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
