Baseball Recap: Walnut Grove Picks Up Fourth Straight Win at Home

Walnut Grove has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging four runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They walked away with a 14-10 victory over the Madison County Red Raiders. This was a revenge game for the Warriors: when they faced off against the Red Raiders last Tuesday, they had to take a 8-3 defeat.

Sean Martell and Branson Blalock were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Martell tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Blalock struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest hits Martell has allowed since back in February. At the plate, Martell went 3-for-5 with three RBI, while Blalock went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Those three hits gave Martell a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sam Martell, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Jarrod Cook was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Walnut Grove pushed their record up to 13-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Madison County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season.
