Softball Recap: Gross Catholic Triumphs

Gross Catholic took a 12-run loss the last time they faced off against Duchesne/Roncalli, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cougars narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Duchesne/Roncalli 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since September 25, 2024.

Alexis Skradski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, Amelia Sheard was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mia Goodwin, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Gross Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Duchesne/Roncalli, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-10.

Gross Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 18-2 win against Buena Vista on the 26th. As for Duchesne/Roncalli, they will square off against Hastings at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Duchesne/Roncalli's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
