Basketball Recap: Arleta Comes Up Short

After flying high against Taft two weeks ago, Arleta came back down to earth. The Arleta Mustangs were beaten by the Valencia Vikings 63-36 on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Vikings are ranked 78th).

Kamilla Basyrova continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Valencia, going 11 for 21 on her way to 25 points in addition to eight boards and five assists. Basyrova's evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cara McKell, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

With the defeat, Arleta broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-3. As for Valencia, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season.

Arleta and Temple City will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Temple City is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.8 points per game this season. As for Valencia, they will head out to challenge Burroughs at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
