Basketball Preview: Sacramento Adventist Capitals vs. Mesa Verde Mavericks
Sacramento Adventist is 3-0 against the Mavericks since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Sacramento Adventist Capitals will head out on the road to square off against the Mesa Verde Mavericks at 5:45 p.m. Hopefully Sacramento Adventist focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Tuesday.
Sacramento Adventist can now show off 14 landslide victories after their most recent match. They breezed by Sacramento Country Day at home to the tune of 57-8. Given Sacramento Adventist's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 526th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 1235th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Victoria Fowler was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Mikayla Meza was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Mesa Verde's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 59-34 walloping at the hands of Dixon. Mesa Verde was down 44-22 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Sacramento Adventist is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. As for Mesa Verde, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-12.
Everything came up roses for Sacramento Adventist against the Mavericks when the teams last played back in December of 2021 as the squad secured a 52-20 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sacramento Adventist since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
