Baseball Game Preview: Caldera vs. Marist Spartans

Caldera will challenge the Marist Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Caldera barely beat Mountain View the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Caldera put the hurt on Mountain View with a sharp 13-6 win on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Caldera.

Owen Walker looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has become a key player for Caldera: the team is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-10 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ty Hattenhauer, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and two stolen bases. He is becoming a predictor of Caldera's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 3-1 (and 10-11 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Carson Downing, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Caldera always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March.

Meanwhile, Marist never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past Marshfield 10-0. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by nine runs or more this season.

Caldera now has a winning record of 13-12. As for Marist, their victory bumped their record up to 15-3.
