Basketball Game Preview: Apostles Lutheran Falcons vs. Basis Independent Silicon Valley Bobcats

The Apostles Lutheran Falcons are taking a road trip to challenge the Basis Independent Silicon Valley Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Apostles Lutheran's offense hasn't had much luck over their past three games, but Friday's matchup will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Monday, Apostles Lutheran lost to Mid-Peninsula on the road by a 26-8 margin.

Jocelyn Husted put forth a good effort for the losing side as she posted eight points in addition to nine boards and three steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Basis Independent Silicon Valley came up short against Gunderson on Tuesday and fell 32-24.

Apostles Lutheran will have to contain Eesha Muttineni as she made an impact in Basis Independent Silicon Valley's last game. She put up 19 points. That was a full 79.2% of Basis Independent Silicon Valley's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Evelyn Wang, who posted three points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Basis Independent Silicon Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Apostles Lutheran's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Basis Independent Silicon Valley, they now have a losing record at 1-2.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Apostles Lutheran has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 29 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Basis Independent Silicon Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Apostles Lutheran took a serious blow against Basis Independent Silicon Valley in their previous meeting back in February, falling 45-7. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Apostles Lutheran was down 28-0.
