Softball Recap: Walker Drops Season-High Score on Landmark Christian

After low-scoring totals in their previous three match, Walker brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They never let the Landmark Christian War Eagles get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory on Thursday. The Wolverines' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Maya Shah made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reese Dege, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Elysa Corrales, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Walker always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Landmark Christian only posted an OBP of .176.

Walker's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 4-6. As for Landmark Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-11-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walker will venture away from home to take on Whitefield Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Landmark Christian, they will challenge Brookstone on Monday. The War Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season.
