Soccer Recap: Saint Mary's Find Success

Saint Mary won the last time they faced Pinole Valley and things went their way on Thursday too. The Saint Mary's Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Pinole Valley Spartans. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 310th, while the Spartans are ranked 661st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tallulah Alatorre and Sophia De Loa Ramirez scored both of Saint Mary's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 16 goals.

Saint Mary's has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3-1 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 22 goals over those five games. As for Pinole Valley, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-7-1.

Saint Mary's wasted no time getting back out on the pitch and has already played their next contest, a 7-0 victory against De Anza on the 28th. As for Pinole Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the pitch again: they've already played their next match, a 4-0 win against Richmond on the 29th.
