The Otay Ranch Mustangs can now show off 11 landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 65-13 victory over San Ysidro. Given Otay Ranch's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 579th, while San Ysidro is ranked 1317th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Otay Ranch was led to victory by Anaya Carter and Mackenzie Daffron. Carter scored 11 points along with seven steals, while Daffron scored 12 points along with seven steals. Daffron has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Mya Bermudez was another key contributor, scoring five points along with six steals and five assists.
Despite the defeat, San Ysidro saw an underclassman step up: Kristine Fadriquela scored 11 points. That was a full 84.6% of San Ysidro's points, marking the tenth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Otay Ranch has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for San Ysidro, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-17.
Otay Ranch will be playing in front of their home fans against Montgomery at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Montgomery is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54 points per game this season. As for San Ysidro, they will head out on the road to face off against Chula Vista at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Chula Vista is on a five-game streak of home losses, San Ysidro a seven-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change.
