Basketball Game Preview: Marquez Gladiators vs. Torres Toros

Marquez is 8-2 against Torres since January of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Marquez Gladiators will be playing in front of their home fans against the Torres Toros at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Marquez has seven straight wins, Torres has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Marquez is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Elizabeth: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Marquez blew Elizabeth out of the water with a 58-13 final score. The Gladiators have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 27 points or more this season.

Corshell Vaughn continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 13 boards. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last 35 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Magaly Gonzalez, who posted ten points and three steals.

Marquez smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 17 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Torres was just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 28-27 to Maywood Academy.

Marquez's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-7. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 20.2 points per game. As for Torres, they now have a losing record at 7-8.

Everything came up roses for Marquez against Torres when the teams last played two weeks ago, as the team secured a 63-18 win. Does Marquez have another victory up their sleeve, or will Torres turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
