Basketball Recap: University Prep Extends Winning Streak to Five

University Prep came tearing into Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31 points), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 51-41 victory over the West Valley Eagles. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Eagles are ranked 359th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

When it comes to explaining why West Valley lost, don't look at Rainessa Matthews. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards. Matthews is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Wiley, who posted eight points.

University Prep pushed their record up to 22-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.7 points over those games. As for West Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 15-11.

University Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for West Valley, they will take on Willows at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Valley is facing Willows at the right time seeing as Willows is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
