Preview: El Rancho Dons vs. California Condors
El Rancho has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the California Condors at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
On Wednesday, El Rancho was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 43-42 to Santa Fe.
Despite the loss, El Rancho saw an underclassman step up: Emery Riker dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 35.7% of El Rancho's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylene Sicairos, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, California's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell to La Serna 50-45. The match was a 24-24 toss-up at halftime, but California was outscored by La Serna in the second.
El Rancho has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-10 record this season. As for California, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-8.
El Rancho was taken down by California 61-32 in their previous matchup on January 3rd. Can El Rancho avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
