Baseball Recap: Pine Island Gets the Win

While Pine Island's win against Dover-Eyota wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 victory over the Eagles on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Alex Knox made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ben Grabau, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2025. Bennett Matzek was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Pine Island now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Dover-Eyota, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Pine Island will take on Red Wing at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Dover-Eyota, they will challenge Wabasha-Kellogg at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
