Baseball Recap: Lyndhurst Gets the Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Lyndhurst ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Leonia Lions by a score of 3-2 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The victory continues a trend for the Golden Bears in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won four in a row.

Tyler Herman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and only one walk). He has become a key player for Lyndhurst: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 11-14 otherwise. Herman was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Ryli Pineiro was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Johnny Chaname was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base and one run.

The win got Lyndhurst back to even at 14-14. As for Leonia, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season.

Lyndhurst will square off against Lodi at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season. As for Leonia, they will challenge Hackensack at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
