Recap: Buhach Colony Thunder vs. Merced Bears
The Buhach Colony Thunder suffered their biggest loss since November 20, 2023 on Thursday. They were outmatched by Merced at home and fell 73-20. While losing is never fun, Buhach Colony can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 983rd, while Merced is ranked 429th).
Merced found their leader in underclassman Averie Steverson, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. Steverson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Amiya Brown, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Buhach Colony and nudges their season record down to 4-13. As for Merced, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-9.
Buhach Colony will be playing at home against Atwater at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Atwater's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 19 matches. As for Merced, they will head out on the road to take on Golden Valley at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Golden Valley is out to stop a eight-game streak of losses at home.
