Preview: Providence Pioneers vs. Westridge Tigers
Providence is 10-0 against Westridge since November of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. Having just played yesterday, the Providence Pioneers will get right back to it and host the Westridge Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on January 17th. Westridge took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Providence, who comes in off a win.
Providence had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 36-24 victory over Chadwick. Given Providence's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 212th, while Chadwick is ranked 948th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Westridge was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 41-37 to Mayfield. Westridge has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Providence pushed their record up to 13-4 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.4 points per game. As for Westridge, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Providence against Westridge in their previous meeting two weeks ago as the squad secured a 73-20 victory. Does Providence have another victory up their sleeve, or will Westridge turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
