Football Game Preview: Covenant Academy Rams vs. Westminster Christian Academy Lions

The Covenant Academy Rams will challenge the Westminster Christian Academy Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Westminster Christian Academy took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Covenant Academy, who comes in off a win.

Covenant Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 58-38 margin over Grace Christian Academy on Friday. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-18.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Covenant Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ethan Mills, who threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 passes, and also rushed for 49 yards and one score. Those 227 passing yards gave Mills a new career-high. Grant Reidl was another key rusher, rushing for 68 yards and a pair of TDs.

Meanwhile, Westminster Christian Academy faced Westminster Schools of Augusta in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Lions took a 32-25 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. The defeat continues a trend for the Lions in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost four in a row.

Covenant Academy will need to focus on slowing down Ethan Townsend, one of several Westminster Christian Academy players who made an impact when they last played. He rushed for 27 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 84 yards and one TD on only eight passes. Another pass catcher making a difference was Asher Irvine, who picked up 90 receiving yards and one score.

The victory got Covenant Academy back to even at 4-4. As for Westminster Christian Academy, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-2.
