Football Recap: Kyle Scott's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Marian Catholic over St. Francis + How To Watch

Marian Catholic lost against St. Francis back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Marian Catholic came up short against St. Francis, falling 42-20. While losing is never fun, Marian Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 186th, while St. Francis is ranked 22nd).

Marian Catholic's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyle Scott, who rushed for 16 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also picked up 49 receiving yards. Andrew Goers also helped out with an impressive 86 receiving yards.

St. Francis' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brock Phillip, who threw for 196 yards and three TDs on only 17 passes, and also rushed for 31 yards and one score. Phillip is becoming a predictor of St. Francis' success: when he posts at least three passing touchdowns the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Tivias Caldwell was another key player, rushing for 128 yards and one touchdown on only nine carries.

Marian Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for St. Francis, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
