Football Recap: Kyle Scott's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Marian Catholic over St. Francis + How To Watch

Marian Catholic lost against St. Francis back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Marian Catholic lost 42-20 to St. Francis. While losing is never fun, Marian Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while St. Francis is ranked 18th).

Marian Catholic lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kyle Scott, who rushed for 16 yards and a pair of scores, and also picked up 49 receiving yards. Andrew Goers also helped out with an impressive 86 receiving yards.

St. Francis' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brock Phillip, who threw for 188 yards and three TDs on only 17 passes, and also rushed for 32 yards and one touchdown. Phillip's passing game has become a key predictor of St. Francis' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. Another rusher making a difference was Tivias Caldwell, who rushed for 122 yards and one score on only eight carries.

Marian Catholic's record is now 2-5. As for St. Francis, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.

Marian Catholic will challenge Providence Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Francis, they will take on DePaul College Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans will be up against the Rams' rather soft defense (which has allowed 31 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
