Basketball Game Preview: Kennedy Cougars vs. Verdugo Hills Dons

The Kennedy Cougars will take on the Verdugo Hills Dons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Kennedy comes in on 17 and Verdugo Hills on nine.

Kennedy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They snuck past Arleta with a 45-40 victory.

Andreya Villa was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double with 15 points, 14 rebounds, and ten steals. Those ten steals gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Melanie Mendez, who posted nine points and three steals.

Kennedy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Verdugo Hills made easy work of Franklin on Friday and carried off an 81-55 win. The Dons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 games by 23 points or more this season.

Kennedy's victory bumped their record up to 23-6. As for Verdugo Hills, their win bumped their record up to an identical 23-6.

Kennedy was taken down by Verdugo Hills 54-26 in their previous meeting back in December of 2021. Can Kennedy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
