Basketball Recap: Mt. Shasta Takes a Loss

Mt. Shasta was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Modoc Braves and fell 68-22. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 887th, while the Braves are ranked 262nd).

Despite the loss, Mt. Shasta saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kaley Lanier posted 11 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Lanier is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

It was another big night for Jordyn Sandage, who went 9-for-17 en route to 20 points in addition to five boards and four steals for Modoc. That's the most points Sandage has posted since back in December of 2024. Ashlynn Albright was another key player, putting up six points and nine assists.

Mt. Shasta's defeat dropped their record down to 3-20. As for Modoc, they have been performing well recently as they've won 15 of their last 18 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season.

Mt. Shasta didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-18 loss against Weed on the 14th. As for Modoc, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 63-27 win against Etna on the 12th.
