Football Recap: Minden Comes Up Short

Minden extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 2-6. They lost 27-6 to the Gothenburg Swedes. The Whippets were down 20-0 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Even if they lost, Minden's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Bo Lutkeimeier, Cael Smith, and Drew Seiler, who each picked up one sack apiece.

As for Gothenburg, they pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 21 points or more this season.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Callen Johnson and Evan Johnson. Callen gained 76 total yards and a touchdown while Evan rushed for 76 yards and one score. The dominant performance also gave Callen a new career-high in rushing yards (48). Torren Wind was in the mix too, providing Gothenburg with two touchdowns.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Minden is set to face off against their familiar foe Cozad at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Gothenburg will challenge rival Broken Bow on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Johnson and Aidan Markham.
