Baseball Recap: Piedmont Academy Takes a Loss

Piedmont Academy and Dominion Christian squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Piedmont Academy had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 5-4.

Piedmont Academy got a good showing from Nick Gervasio, who tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Gervasio has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Zach Simmons and Tyler Griswell stepped up to the plate in a big way. Simmons got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI, while Griswell got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Taylor, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Piedmont Academy dropped their record down to 14-12 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only two runs. As for Dominion Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 17 of their last 19 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-6 record this season.

While Piedmont Academy had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
