California high school football: Statewide top 25 scoreboard

Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas hosts No. 6 Orange Lutheran in battle of nationally-ranked teams.

This week's high school football schedule in California is headlined by state No. 6 Orange Lutheran (Orange) traveling to take on Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.), the No. 5 team in the MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings.

The Lancers head into the game ranked No. 12 in the country with a 3-0 record. Orange Lutheran is coming off a 15-13 win over national No. 13 St. Frances Academy last week after previously defeating Serra (Gardena) and Rancho Cucamonga.

Orange Lutheran quarterback T.J. Lateef has been elite to start 2024 with 597 passing yards and eight touchdowns, completing 76.8 of his attempts. On the outside the Lancers are led by sophomore Chris Flores Jr. and senior Tyler Hennessy, who have combined to catch five touchdowns.

Bishop Gorman is coming off a 31-15 loss to the No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana). This will be the fourth straight week that the Gaels have played an out-of-state opponent.

No. 18 Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) will take on No. 7 Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) on Friday in a matchup of 2-1 squads. Santa Margarita fell to No. 2 Mission Viejo and has wins over No. 5 Centennial (Corona) and Liberty (Henderson, Nev.) as junior wide receiver Trent Mosley leads the Eagles with 444 receiving yards with four scores.



Oaks Christian defeated Chaminade (West Hills) and Roosevelt (Eastvale) with a loss to Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) sandwiched in between. In the 48-0 victory over Roosevelt, freshman Trey Towns Jr. paced the Lions with 209 passing yards and five touchdowns. Top target Weston Schwesinger hauled in two of those scores.

No. 4 JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano) will make the short trek down Interstate 5 to face No. 19 Lincoln (San Diego) on Friday night at Southwestern College in San Diego. The Lions are 3-0 and ranked No. 26 in the nation with wins over Sierra Canyon, Aquinas (San Bernardino) and Clovis North (Fresno). The defense has allowed 20 total points on the season while scoring 35 each contest.

Lincoln has won two straight after losing its opener. In the Hornets 51-14 win over Coronado (Henderson, Nev.) last week, senior running back Aden Jackson rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Jackson has 344 yards and six touchdowns on the ground this season.

No. 21 Clovis East (Clovis) will host No. 24 Grant (Sacramento) on Friday at 7 p.m. Grant is coming off a 35-21 win over Inderkum (Sacramento) on Saturday after senior Luke Alexander threw three touchdown passes. Two of them went to sophomore tight end Zo Edwards, who holds offers from Sacramento State, Washington and Washington State.

Clovis East is 3-0 after defeating Sanger 56-3 last week. Senior quarterback Tyus Miller has completed 68.4 percent of his throws this season for 502 yards and two touchdowns. A dual-threat, Miller also leads the Timberwolves with 195 rushing yards.

On Saturday No. 3 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) will travel to Northern California and face No. 14 Junipero Serra (San Mateo). Junior quarterback Matai Fuiava has helped lead the Braves to a 3-0 record after throwing for 822 yards and eight touchdowns in his first year as a starter.



Junipero Serra is coming off a 39-10 loss to No. 8 De La Salle (Concord) and sits with a 1-1 record.
