Basketball Recap: Maddison Gossi's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ferndale over Granada

After a string of three wins, Ferndale's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell 44-36 to the Granada Matadors. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Wildcats came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 257th, while the Matadors are ranked 622nd).

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maddison Gossi, who posted nine points. Another player making a difference was Emily Sauers, who had eight points.

Ferndale's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Granada, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-8.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Ferndale Wildcats challenge the San Domenico Panthers at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. Granada and Los Banos will round out the year against one another at at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Los Banos will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Granada surely won't give up without a fight.
