Baseball Recap: Alexander Triumphs

Villa Rica typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Alexander proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Wildcats. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won four in a row.

Matthew Westbrook made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in February. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Josh Sellers was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Alexander is undefeated when Sellers posts two or more runs, but 4-12 otherwise. Jessie Williams also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Alexander's record now sits at 8-12. As for Villa Rica, their loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-2.

Alexander will have a chance to go back-to-back against Villa Rica: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
