Baseball Recap: Woodward Academy War Eagles vs. Westminster Wildcats
Woodward Academy fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Westminster on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 7-5. If the War Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 4-0 to the Wildcats when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Woodward Academy got a good showing from Turner Marshall, who kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Furthermore, Marshall didn't allow a single hit, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March.
On the hitting side, Woodward Academy saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Ray, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Landon Walker also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Woodward Academy's loss dropped their record down to 18-6. As for Westminster, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-12.
Looking ahead, Woodward Academy will head out on the road to face off against Tri-Cities at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The War Eagles are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a 17-game losing streak. As for Westminster, they will be playing at home against Kell at 5:55 p.m. on Tuesday. The Longhorns' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
