Soccer Game Preview: Calhoun vs. Rome

Calhoun hasn't had much luck against Rome recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets will face off against Wolves at 7:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Calhoun will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one goal on Friday, then bounced right back against Sonoraville on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets put the hurt on the Phoenix with a sharp 5-1 win. The victory continues a trend for Calhoun in their matchups with Sonoraville: they've now won four in a row.

Alex Delgado and David Vera scored all five of Calhoun's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 19 goals.

Meanwhile, Rome waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They blew past the Raiders 4-1. The final result isn't all the surprising considering Rome's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 44th, while East Paulding are ranked 207th).

Rome's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 20 goals over those four games. As for Calhoun, their win bumped their record up to 8-6.

Calhoun couldn't quite get it done against Rome in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 as they fell 2-0. Can the Yellow Jackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
