Softball Game Preview: Skyline Falcons vs. Thornton Trojans

The Skyline Falcons will take on the Thornton Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Skyline has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with 26 straight defeats, while Thornton will come in with six straight victories.

Skyline is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They lost 24-8 to Aurora Central on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Thornton never let their opponents score on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over Aurora Central. The result was nothing new for Thornton, who have now won 11 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Izabella Groover made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mya Grady, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in August of 2024. Jan'Ea Jones also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Thornton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in six consecutive games.

Thornton's record is now 17-2-1. As for Skyline, their loss dropped their record down to 0-10.

Skyline suffered a grim 17-0 defeat to Thornton in their previous meeting on Wednesday. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
