Baseball Game Preview: Hampton Hornets vs. Stockbridge Tigers

For the second straight game, Hampton will face off against Stockbridge. The Hornets will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Hampton hasn't scored more than two runs for five games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.

Things were looking good for Hampton after they put the first points on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Stockbridge by a score of 3-2.

For Stockbridge's part, Dereck Foster and Casey McBride were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Foster tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, McBride struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Foster also tossed a walk, which is notable because Stockbridge is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 8-10 otherwise. At bat, Foster went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI, while McBride scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Stockbridge has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Hampton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.
