Softball Recap: Vista PEAK Prep Takes a Loss

Vista PEAK Prep had lost four straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 6-11 to make it five. They lost 12-0 to the D'Evelyn Jaguars. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Bison's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Vista PEAK Prep saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Amara Herrera, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

As for D'Evelyn, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 17-3. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games.

On D'Evelyn's side, Nava Basquez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Basquez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, D'Evelyn got a big performance out of Myla Vigil, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Myla Seda, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Coming up, Vista PEAK Prep will head out on the road to challenge Denver South at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Bison's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Ravens have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for D'Evelyn, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pomona at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.94 runs per game on average), something the Jaguars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
