Basketball Recap: Seniaah Simms' Big Game Can't Quite Lead San Diego over La Jolla

San Diego suffered their closest loss since December 30, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the La Jolla Vikings by a score of 50-47. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cavers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 37-33 back in January.

San Diego lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Seniaah Simms, who posted eight points and 16 boards. Simms is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 14 games she's played. Gianna Woodson was another key player, going 9 for 20 on her way to 19 points.

Even though they lost, San Diego smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 16 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

It was another big night for Reagan Bennett, who went 9 of 12 en route to 23 points for La Jolla. The team also got some help courtesy of Soila Chadwick, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 11 points and five boards.

The defeat snapped San Diego's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-13 record. As for La Jolla, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. San Diego will venture away from home to challenge Academy of Our Lady of Peace at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for La Jolla, they will head out to square off against High Tech SD at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. High Tech SD is on a four-game streak of home wins, La Jolla a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
