Softball Recap: Gross Catholic Comes Up Short

If Gross Catholic was riding high fresh off their 12-1 takedown of Fairbury on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cougars lost 9-2 to the Pius X Thunderbolts on Saturday. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Thunderbolts recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Gross Catholic saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maggie Earnest, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Gross Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Pius X, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-10.

Coming up, Gross Catholic will face off against South Sioux City at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Cardinals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.79 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pius X, they are taking a road trip to face off against Bishop Neumann on Tuesday. The Thunderbolts' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cavaliers have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
