Recap: Franklin Cougars vs. Coronado Thunderbirds
The Franklin Cougars had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.8 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They came out on top against Coronado by a score of 54-43. Given Franklin's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while Coronado is ranked 800th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Franklin was led to victory by Noah Hall and Jazhiel Herrera. Hall scored 14 points along with five steals, while Herrera scored 17 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Hall has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Eddie Garcia, who scored five points along with two steals.
Coronado's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Roberto Lopez, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Noah Lozano, who scored six points.
Franklin has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 23-6 record this season. As for Coronado, they dropped their record down to 9-20 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.
Franklin will take on Americas at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Americas has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 242 points over their last four contests. As for Coronado, they will head out on the road to face off against Eastlake at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Coronado focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
