Baseball Recap: Columbus' Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

After soaring to 17 runs the game before, Columbus was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They fell 7-2 to the Smiths Station Panthers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Blue Devils of the 7-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Columbus saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jamari Blackmon, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Columbus moved to 9-9 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing ten hits in those games compared to only 5.47 in the others. As for Smiths Station, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbus will welcome Carver at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Carver has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 25.75 runs per game on average), something Columbus will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Smiths Station, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Dothan at 4:00 p.m. The last four games Dothan has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
