Douglas County dropped down to 4-3 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Smoky Hill Buffaloes. The Huskies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Buffaloes apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Reese Bowman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Devayah Pineda also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Smoky Hill, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.

On Smoky Hill's side, Kiley Snyder was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Amia Colston, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Douglas County will take on Horizon at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Smoky Hill, they will venture away from home to challenge Widefield at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Gladiators' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Buffaloes' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
