Softball Game Preview: Alamosa Mean Moose vs. Rocky Ford Meloneers

Alamosa is 1-9 against Rocky Ford since October of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Mean Moose will look to defend their home field against the Meloneers at 4:00 p.m. Alamosa is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Alamosa made easy work of Florence and carried off a 15-6 win. The Mean Moose haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Olivia Castillo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits.

On the hitting side, Araceli Molina was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Shaya Martin was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Alamosa kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Rocky Ford lost 8-2 to La Junta on Thursday.

Rocky Ford's defeat dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Alamosa, their win bumped their record up to 13-7.

Everything went Alamosa's way against Rocky Ford in their previous meeting on September 9th, as Alamosa made off with a 12-2 victory. Will the Mean Moose repeat their success, or do the Meloneers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
