Basketball Recap: Minden Triumphs

Minden won the last time they faced McCook and Myla Emery did her part to make sure it happened again. The Whippets secured a 46-42 W over the Bison on Thursday for which the team can thank Emery, who almost dropped a double-double with 23 points and nine boards. She also grabbed six steals, which is notable because Minden is 8-1 when she posts at least three steals, but 3-5 otherwise.

McCook's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brecken Gale, who posted 11 points. Ellie Gillen also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Minden's record now sits at 11-6. As for McCook, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Minden will venture away from home to challenge Cozad at 6:00 p.m. on February 6. The Whippets will be up against the Haymakers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 49.89 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for McCook, they will be playing at home against Ogallala at 5:30 p.m. on February 6.
