Basketball Recap: Hesperia Comes Up Short

Hesperia saw some tournament action on Saturday. They came up short against the Roosevelt Mustangs, falling 60-37. While losing is never fun, the Scorpions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 453rd, while the Mustangs are ranked 36th).

When it comes to explaining why Hesperia lost, don't look at Berlynn Miramontes. Despite the final result, she posted 15 points. Miramontes is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Annabel Sanchez, who scored four points and 13 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Hesperia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Hesperia has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for Roosevelt, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-2.

Hesperia will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Claremont at 4:30 p.m. on December 26th. Roosevelt also won't see the court for a while: their next game is against Fairmont Prep at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
